Paper Example The American Foreign Policy and the Snowden Issue

Paper Example The American Foreign Policy and the Snowden Issue Paper Example: The American Foreign Policy and the Snowden Issue The Snowden incident is a clear indication that America needs to do more on its foreign policy if it is to remain a global leader in various aspects. Failure to extradite the leaker of national intelligence information is a clear inadequacy on the side of the United States. Particularly considering the actions of Russia to grant temporal asylum to Snowden indicates that the world may not be as safe as the American foreign policy suggests. This calls for the U.S. to appreciate the developing international challenges, assume a more global perspective, and increase its efforts for international outreach.Looking at the actions of China and Russia concerning the issue in contrast with the wishes of America indicates the countries’ blindness to international safety and peace. Apparently, China and Russia are challenging America’s leadership in the global scene, which sets the wrong precedence because such contests are often dangerous. This calls for the United States to develop foreign policies that ensure it to remain a global leader providing peace and prosperity in the world, which would prevent the possibility of a dangerous post American world. Therefore, the United States should develop policies with the aim of active courtship of both traditional and new partners to manage contemporary and future threats to world peace and prosperity. Considering policies for coordinated action rather than conflict should be the guiding principle. Even though the foreign policy has been relatively effective in enhancing global activity, the Snowden incident indicates the need for more international consensus to manage global issues better and encourage nations such as Russia and China to cooperate. Achieving a global consensus would help the United States in advancing its own interests while making the world peaceful and prosperous.
